This 130 hours part-time course is 12-14 weeks and is intensive by nature.
We start with a 3-day long weekend (full days), which is very important to really kick-start the course and get things rolling.
After this trainees attend one evening a week and approximately one Saturday per month (full days).
Trainees also do a minimum of 6 hours of teaching practice during the course.
Successful trainees will be awarded the Trinity College London CertTESOL certificate.
For the part-time option you can choose your main centre either in:
Woking Old Community Centre, Woking, Surrey - on Tuesday evenings from 18:00 - 21:30 plus 2 - 4 Saturdays plus 6 hours of Teaching Practice
Berkshire College, Maidenhead, Berkshire - on Wednesday evenings from 18:00 - 21:30 plus 2 - 4 Saturdays plus 6 hours of Teaching Practice
The timetables for the Woking and Maidenhead centres are the same, but staggered to be repeated the week after, so if you really cannot attend a session in your usual centre on a particular date, you can attend the session at the other centre.
There is some scope for flexibility in the timetabling of the part-time course so we will do our best to make sure everyone gets access to all sessions to fit in with pressing commitments.
This is a key part of the course. It is where you get to teach real students so you can put the things you cover during the course into action and develop your teaching skills under the close and careful guidance of the trainers.
The trainers help you plan, observe you teaching and then give you extensive feedback/suggestions/ideas after the lesson, which you can implement in future lessons. You are really able to notice how much rapid progress you make in the classroom from the first teaching practice to the last, which is incredibly satisfying and rewarding.
Woking Centre - Teaching practice usually takes place on Mondays from 09:00 to 14:00. We may add some Wednesdays if there is a need for more sessions. If someone has real problems attending teaching practice, we can sometimes offer evenings or do observations in the school where a trainee works. We try to be flexible to suit.
Maidenhead Centre - Teaching practice will usually take place in the evenings, normally Mondays, Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 18:30 to 20:30. If someone has real problems attending, we can sometimes add daytime observations or do observations in the school where a trainee works. Again, we do our best to be as flexible as possible.
Please remember you usually only need to do hours of observed lessons in total for the whole course so it is not every week. Every effort will be made to arrange your teaching schedule to fit in with your existing commitments but you will need to be available for teaching practice on these limited number of occasions.
