Meet the trainers

Full support

Teacher Trainers love training!
That is why we choose to do it. All the Ardmore trainers are fully dedicated to providing a course that helps you develop quickly; a course that is stimulating thought provoking, practical, and full of ideas that you can take away.
We will fully support you throughout your journey on the course. You will even be given the trainers’ contact numbers so you are also able to contact them even when not in the centre if you need help, advice, or support with any aspect of the course.

Ardmore teacher training course Colin

Colin Spicer

“I have been involved with the exciting world of international education since 1984 and am still extremely passionate about helping people learn and develop, whether trainees, students or staff.” Colin has trained teachers in the UK, Czech Republic, Malta and China, and has a wide knowledge of the EFL world from his experience in roles including Senior EFL Teacher, Director of Studies, Principal, Director of Training, Summer School Operations Director and Sales & Marketing Director.

Elaine Stafford

Elaine is one of the co-founders of the Universal Language Training (ULT) in 1989, which joined Ardmore in 2017, and she has spent much of her life helping trainees graduate from this great training course. She absolutely loves training, which shows through in her sessions and her support with a smile.

Ardmore teacher training course Richard

Richard Gallen
Teacher Trainer, DELTA, MA English Language Teaching & Applied Linguistics

Richard is a dedicated teacher trainer and highly qualified EFL/ESOL professional. He recently did the International House Teacher Trainer Certificate (IHTTC), which not only enhanced his training skills, but also ensured we are up-to-date with current thoughts on training.

Ardmore teacher training course Sue

Sue Cini
Teacher Trainer

Another co-founder of ULT, Sue now is semi-retired, but due to her intense passion for training she likes to stay involved in a support role. She is the ‘Queen of Organisation’ and enjoys taking part in observations and supporting trainees through their teaching preparation.

Ardmore teacher training course Barbara

Barbara Ilett
Teacher Trainer

Barbara is a freelance teacher trainer, who spends much of her year travelling around the world, working for Trinity College London as a CertTESOL moderator and Diploma examiner. In addition to her examining roles, Barbara is a CertTESOL and DipTESOL trainer. One of her favourite subjects is teaching pronunciation, which is an important part of the course and an essential part of an English language teacher’s toolkit.

Ardmore teacher training course Marianna

Marianna Zaytseva
Language Teacher

Marianna provides the four lessons we do on the course in another language. The main aims of this part of the course are for trainees to experience being a beginner in a language class environment and experience being on the receiving end on the methodologies we use on the course. As a graduate of our Trinity Cert TESOL course herself, Marianna is very familiar with the methodologies.

The importance of variety

You will have two main trainers throughout the courses. However, at Ardmore we strongly believe that trainees should be introduced to a wider range of ideas and teaching styles. There is no one ‘right way’ to be a teacher!

We all have different personalities and opinions on the best ways to help our students learn, so our philosophy is that the more styles and views you are exposed to, the more it can help you begin to develop a style of teaching that is suited to you. This is why you will usually receive input and guidance from other trainers on the course.

Talk to one of our experienced trainers for helpful advice
